“Meditation is the only way you can grow..because when you meditate, you are in silence. You are in thoughtless awareness. Then the growth of awareness takes place.”
-Shri Mataji
“When the body and mind are in sync, we are naturally relaxed, alert, open, and aware, and we experience ourselves and the world in a direct, unmediated way, without conceptual filters. It is this direct experience of the fullness, vitality, and splendor of life that is the gift of meditation.”
– Eckhart Tolle
“We could say that meditation doesn’t have a reason or doesn’t have a purpose. In this respect it’s unlike almost all other things we do except perhaps making music and dancing. When we make music we don’t do it in order to reach a certain point, such as the end of the composition. If that were the purpose of music then obviously the fastest players would be the best. Also, when we are dancing we are not aiming to arrive at a particular place on the floor as in a journey. When we dance, the journey itself is the point, as when we play music the playing itself is the point. And exactly the same thing is true in meditation. Meditation is the discovery that the point of life is always arrived at in the immediate moment.”
– Alan Watts
“The flowering of love is meditation.”
– Jiddu Krishnamurti
“The quieter you become, the more you can hear.”
-Ram Dass
“The power of meditation gets us everything. If you want to get power over nature, [you can have it through meditation]. It is through the power of meditation all scientific facts are discovered today. They study the subject and forget everything, their own identity and everything, and then the great fact comes like a flash. Some people think that is inspiration. There is no more inspiration than there is expiration; and never was anything got for nothing.”
-Swami Vivekananda
“The more the heart is an avid void, the more abundantly light will shine into it.”
– Thich Nhat Hanh
“To understand the immeasurable, the mind must be extraordinarily quiet, still.”
– Jiddu Krishnamurti
“The process of breathing if fully understood and experienced in its profound significance, could teach us more than all the philosophies of the world.”
– Lama Govinda
“The purpose of meditation is to awaken in us the sky-like nature of mind, and to introduce us to that which we really are, our unchanging pure awareness, which underlies the whole of life and death.”
– Sogyal Rinpoche
“If every 8 year old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world within one generation.”
-Dalai Lama
“Meditation practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better, it’s about befriending who we are.”
Ani Pema Chedron
“To understand the immeasurable, the mind must be extraordinarily quiet, still.”
– Jiddu Krishnamurti
“Your own Self-Realization is the greatest service you can render the world.”
– Ramana Maharsh
“Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.
-Carl Jung
“Meditation brings wisdom; lack of mediation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what hold you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom.”
– Buddha
a mana meditation…
Find a place to sit comfortably
Spine erect
Close your eyes and follow your breath for several minutes
Relax your shoulders
Relax your entire body…
Feel the ground beneath you
Relax into it
The ground is supporting you, all of you
Imagine you are sitting in a forest
smell the soil
feel the cool ground
Before you a Koa seed falls
in slow motion
you see it come down
it lands on the ground in front of you
and nestles its weight into the loamy forest soil
Imagine yourself the seed
Feel the soil supporting all of your weight
Imagine the smell of the earth and what it feels like
cool and moist
enveloping you
The sun shines down and warms the top of your head
Feel the heat of it
The brightness of the light
Imagine the brightness of the sun begin to fade away
the light diminishes
it begins to sprinkle…
the ground beneath you becomes soaked and you settle deeper into it
Where you ground, at your base, a thin, light infused thread
emerges
It slowly descends deeper and deeper into the soil
small, light infused sub-threads morph outward
from the main root
as the roots descend
your body
at the surface
feels more and more stable
The blowing wind no longer
affects
You feel stronger
sturdy
more sure…
as this feeling of stability expands
you begin to notice a light shining from within
your heart
it grows brighter and brighter
as the roots descend…
Now there is a feeling of warmth
emanating from your solar plexus
the light in your heart continues to grow brighter
and move outward
while the warmth expands from your solar plexus
you feel it everywhere
light and heat
fills every part of you
and it begins to push against your skin
a sensation of pressure is felt
you begin to feel yourself expanding
like a balloon
filled with warm air…
A tremendous pressure builds
and builds
light emanates brightly from your heart
warmth bursts forth from the solar plexus
Suddenly there is a great pressure release
and you feel yourself expanding out and upward
no longer contained in the skin…
as you move upwards you notice
you are moving towards a bright light
the brightness feels tremendously good
and causes a tingling electric sensation
your being is bathed in the light that shines down
upon you…
Suddenly you understand
the light has always been there
You direct yourself towards it now
growing
growing
upwards
upwards
the light envelopes you
becomes you
Suddenly,
You notice
It has stopped raining
the sun is shining
You feel the warmth of it and open your great arms to it
The light feeds you
You feel it coursing through you
Through your veins
A white, warm light courses through every part of your body now
feeding you as you feed
everything else in turn
the Great Koa Tree
Now bring your attention back to your breathing
relax
and attend to your breathing…
Open your attention to your human body
The strength of the Koa is part of you now
Whenever you should need it
